Atlas Obscura: Branded content

Although my wife is a talented photojournalist and I’m a writer, we haven’t often worked together—until Atlas Obscura tapped us for a couple of fun branded-content projects: a road trip from Los Angeles to Joshua Tree, and a running tour of Venice, California. The pieces turned out great, were well received by both the brands and Atlas Obscura, and were an absolute blast to create.

For a story presented by Nissan, Sally and I explored the “strange and novel” stops on the drive from Los Angeles to Joshua Tree National Park. The desert has always been a haven for weirdos—and we found plenty of fun along the way.

For a story presented by Cole Haan, Sally and I followed a six-mile running route through Venice, California, hitting some of the neighborhood’s most notable oddities—and Venice has no shortage of them.
